Colour · paint protection film

Spectrum

Colour film for the buyer choosing between a vinyl wrap and a change of colour that also protects the paint. It is not the answer to a clear-film question.

What it is for

Why Spectrum.

This answers the question a vinyl wrap answers: what colour should the car be. The difference is that the colour is in a protection film, so the restyle and the protective layer are the same layer. If you want the paint you have, only protected, the clear films are the ones to look at: Defender and Fusion.

Spectrum · Colour

Colour in the film.

The colour is carried in the film itself, over the factory paint, and the factory colour is still there when a professional takes it off. Ask the shop for a finished panel before you choose.

Ticked rows are verified: printed on the roll label or confirmed by ARK. A bracketed row is waiting for a measurement or the construction sheet, and it stays a bracket until one exists.

What a claim covers: replacement film, and the labour to take off the failed film and fit the new one.Registered online, claimed through the shop that installed it.

Limits

What it does, and what it doesn’t.

It does

  • Changes the colour of the car and protects the paint in the same layer.
  • Comes off again, back to the factory colour, when a professional removes it.
  • Closes light swirls in the top coat with heat.

It doesn’t

  • Hide seams on complex panels. They are visible, and a good shop shows you where before starting.
  • Offer a colour count yet. Colours are published when the book is final.
  • Stop hail.

Questions

Asked about Spectrum.

No. A vinyl wrap is a thin, comparatively rigid skin that offers little protection from stones. Spectrum is a urethane protection film with the colour in the film, so the restyle and the protective layer are the same layer.

Colours are published when the book is final. Ask the installing shop to show you a finished panel in the finish you are considering before you choose.

On complex panels, yes. Coloured film shows every edge and relief cut that clear film hides, so it takes a shop experienced with coloured film, and it is worth looking at that shop’s finished work first.
A dark, near-empty workshop at night seen down its centre line: a single dark car parked at the far end under a warm ceiling light panel whose reflection runs the length of the polished floor, steel columns and cool strip lights along both side walls.
