Guide · For car owners
What to ask an installer before you book
Ask where they cut the film, how they finish the edges, whether the bay is heated and clean, how long the car must stay dry afterwards, and how a warranty claim works. Then ask to see a finished car up close. The answers tell you more than the brand on the roll.
Do you cut the film on the car, or off it?
Many shops cut film on a plotter before it reaches the car. Others trim by hand on the panel. Both can be done well. What you want to hear is how they keep a blade off your clear coat when they do trim on the car.
How do you finish the edges?
A wrapped edge folds around the panel edge and disappears. A cut edge stops short of it and stays visible. Wrapping is not possible everywhere, so ask where they wrap and where they do not, and why.
Then look at the edges on a finished car. That is where the work shows.
Where does the car go?
Film goes on best in a heated, clean, enclosed bay. Cold slows the adhesive and stiffens the film, and a cold-bay edge is the one that lifts later. Dust in the air ends up under the film.
What happens before the film goes on?
The paint should be washed and decontaminated, and corrected where it needs it. Film seals in whatever is underneath. A chip or a swirl under the film stays there.
How long must the car stay dry?
The adhesive needs time to cure. A good shop tells you how long before you wash the car, and what to avoid until then. If nobody mentions it, ask.
What does the warranty cover, and who do I call?
There are usually two warranties. The film brand covers the film. The shop covers its own workmanship. Ask what each covers and for how long.
With ARK, you register the warranty online and claim it through the shop that installed the film. The term is 10 years, and it transfers to the car’s next owner. Register a warranty.
Can I see a finished car?
Look closely at the corners, around badges and sensors, and along the edges. Look for specks under the film and lines in the paint. Clean edges and clear film tell you more than any answer.
ARK film is installed by authorized dealers. If you do not have a shop yet, ask ARK to match you with one.
The honest limit
A checklist cannot judge the work
Good installers will answer some of these differently, for sound reasons. What matters is whether they can explain why, and whether their finished cars back it up. This list helps you ask. Your own eyes on a finished car decide.
